Work has begun on a prototype of the lander design.

This work fabricates the designs located in the lander repository.

Concurrent work is underway on the thermal and mechanical properties of this design, as will be constructed in aluminum in future iterations.

ITAR black list

Jeyram from Sri Lanka has found an ITAR black list of embargoed countries.

I think that everything we're doing is already in the public domain, and that nothing that we're doing has any specific relevance to the world of weapons or doing harm.

In any case, it is my sincere hope that if ever my government should identify an ITAR problem with what we're doing, that they would contact us in a civilized way so that we may react appropriately.

The skunk works

We may be moving into a trial and error "skunk works" mode. We need to be cognizant of the costs, and to minimize them with development and simulation, design and simulation reviews, and a careful test program.

We're only starting to pull on bringing together many elements. There's a lot of new integration to be done. We can't afford to waste one of these test articles. Preparation is everything.

The first most important part of such a process would be to identify what's going in, and what's not, as soon as possible in each case.

Our success will be measured in our development and test record for the team.

Objective: mechanical test article

The objective of the current iteration is to finalize the specification of a mechanical test article for Monroe to fabricate.

The overall mechanical engineering process is to fab from cad (in repo).

Naturally we might want this test article to be compatible with subsequent modification for flight tests. This is an open question. And if so, what modifications, enhancements or elaborations of the current mechanical design (cad in repo) would be necessary, if any, to be forward compatible with this development.

As always, all input and discussion most welcome.
